Bay Area Yoga Teacher Highlight: Erika Trice
Name: Erika Trice
Practice with me at: Yoga Works in Mill Valley and Larkspur Landing, and on a retreat through International Yoga.
How long I’ve been practicing yoga: 30 years.
How long I’ve been teaching yoga: 25 years.
What kind of yoga I teach: I teach an alignment based slower flow style of yoga. It is a hybrid of my Iyengar, Ashtanga, Vini Yoga and Anusara studies.
My mantra these days: I am Enough.
A posture that has been resonating with me lately is: Linking of many postures with breath. These days I am loving moving my body in sync with my breath and tuning in deeply to the sensations I experience. This is a natural extension of my meditation practice.
How I like to practice yoga off the mat: In everything I do, from how I communicate in all of my relationships, to the choices I make about what to eat, where to go and what to fill my time with. This has become my yoga. My life has become my yoga.
My sign: Pisces.
The last book I read was: The Wise Heart by Jack Kornfield.
Favorite local juice/tea spot: Any place I can get a good celery juice.
Where I go for a nourishing meal: I know this may sound cliché for a yoga teacher but it is true…Indian food is my comfort food. I love Lotus Café for good Indian Food.
What’s on your yoga playlist right now: Devi Prayer by Craig Pruess & Ananda, Kanou by Fatoumata Diawara.
A few of my favorite yoga teachers are: Maty Ezraty, Sianna Sherman, and Sarah Powers These powerful teachers have influenced my teaching style not only by their knowledge but by their dedication and deep love and compassion.
A ritual I love: I love my early morning wake up and meditate ritual. I love the silence and the time to go inward.
What I am letting go of this year: The opposite of my favorite mantra, thinking I am not enough as I am.
What I am embracing this year: It is still unfolding at the moment.
