How To Better Care For Your Yoga Students
If you're in charge of a regular yoga class, then you will understand the need to keep your students on your side.
After creating a thriving brand for your yoga business, you will want to attract more students, grow your business, and make changes according to your students' needs.
So, with all of this in mind, you should make student care a priority. If you do, your students will keep coming back, they will spread positive word of mouth about your business, and you will build a solid reputation. For you, this means more students and bigger profits.
But how do you show care to your yoga students? Beyond showing them the techniques that will benefit their lives, what else can you do? Here are some suggestions.
#1: Be willing to change your plans
You will know the importance of being prepared for your yoga lessons but you don't always have to stick to your plans. If the group appears tired one day or if they still need help with earlier techniques you have taught, you should accommodate their needs. So, if they're appearing tired, it might not be time to do something that requires a lot of energy. And if they ask you to repeat a previous lesson, you might postpone what you had planned to do. Yes, you're in charge of the group but your students' needs should always come first. #2:
Know how to give first aid
Would you know how to give first aid to somebody who injured themselves while stretching or balancing? While we're sure you wouldn't push your students past their limits, there could be occasions when injuries do happen, especially for those students who aren't in the best of shape. Your students might also need first aid if they suddenly collapse mid-class or if they choke on something during the break. These situations are unthinkable we know but it's better to know what to do should an emergency arise. Check out the first aid courses at MyCPR NOW or attend a course that is happening near you.
#3: Ask for your students' feedback
This can be quite a humbling exercise but it is something you should be doing regularly. If your students have any problems with your teaching methods or if they have any other issues, you will be able to make the relevant changes after listening to their perspectives. Don't take their feedback personally. While your students are there to learn from you, there is also much you can learn from them, so take feedback graciously.
#4: Get to know your students
Your students don't exist to profit your business, so don't treat them like a commodity. They are human beings, with feelings and needs, so you need to relate to them as such when they come through your doors. This isn't to say you should listen to all of their problems when they attend your sessions. You would never get any work done! However, at the very least, you can learn their names and talk to them a little so they feel respected and valued.
Chances are, you might have followed our suggestions already. But if not, consider what we have had to say and then find other ways to show care to your yoga students.
